Digital operating dashboard
To improve the overview and automatically enrich relevant information, we developed a digital dashboard on behalf of our customer GETEC.
Mandate
GETEC PARK.SWISS operates Switzerland's largest chemical park in Muttenz and offers comprehensive services such as energy supply, waste disposal, solvent recycling and wastewater disposal. GETEC AVORA ensures the smooth production of over 30 major customers through reliable wastewater disposal. Waste water is delivered daily, stored temporarily in large tanks and then forwarded for purification.
The management team and employees needed a better overview of the tank and skip contents in order to make informed decisions. Previously, the data was recorded on a manually updated magnetic board, but this was cumbersome and not very clear.
The customer's order consisted of developing a digital visualization of the buffer tanks with fill level display and content information from the process control system. It also included support in purchasing and providing the necessary hardware and software. The system was to be designed in such a way that a digital display of the shift and truck delivery schedule would also be possible in the future.
Procedure
The project began with a comprehensive Quick Assessment including a workshop with all relevant stakeholders such as operational employees, the operations manager and the project manager in order to draw up a binding specification.
The specification and implementation phase included the development of a digital magnetic board with two software variants (fat client and web client) and integrated visualizations of shift schedules and delivery schedules.
The application was developed iteratively with the constant involvement of end users, supported by UX experts from soultank. Several drafts were created and evaluated and further developed through on-site visits, interviews and protocols.
For the visual design, the guidelines according to the ISA 101 Standard for Human Machine Interfaces for Process Automation System were applied.
Thanks to the early planning of the target infrastructure and hardware, in-house tests could be carried out on the final system. This allowed important conclusions to be drawn in the final development phase.
Achievements
The final dashboard was successfully implemented after several iterations and adjustments according to the feedback from the end users at GETEC. CTE developed a user-friendly interface that was customized to GETEC's needs.
The final solution seamlessly integrates the existing interfaces to the production facilities, enabling quasi-real-time monitoring. The introduction of the dashboard at GETEC led to a significant improvement in communication and information availability.
