CTE Joins Swisscom at the Next Industries Industry Forum

At the Next Industries Industry Forum on September 22 in Windisch, Swisscom and CTE will demonstrate how the worlds of manufacturing and IT can be securely and seamlessly integrated. The CTE cocktail machine will be the centerpiece of their joint presentation. Using an easy-to-understand real-world example, it illustrates the added value that this collaboration offers to industrial companies.

In keeping with mountaineer Dani Arnold’s keynote address, Swisscom draws on the metaphor of a mountain climb at the Industry Forum: Companies should be guided safely on their journey toward digitalization—from base camp to the summit. CTE adds the industrial perspective to this narrative. After all, the transition between IT and OT, in particular, is a challenging stage on the path to end-to-end digitalization of production. This is where Swisscom and CTE combine their respective strengths.

A single order sets the entire chain in motion

Under the motto “The Perfect Mix of IT and OT,” the cocktail machine demonstrates a seamless process and data chain: from digital ordering to the Automated Production to the secure return and use of the data in IT and the cloud.

The customer selects their desired drink via a web application. The order sets the entire automation chain in motion, and the machine produces the drink. At the same time, relevant process data—such as ingredients used, preparation time, and any errors—is recorded and made available in a structured format. A dashboard then generates meaningful metrics from this data, such as drink popularity, ingredient consumption, or machine utilization.

Where Swisscom and CTE Combine Their Strengths

CTE and Swisscom are working together to connect the manufacturing world with the digital world.

CTE understands the realities of the industrial world and ensures that plants, systems, and production data are securely and systematically integrated all the way through to the handoff to IT. Swisscom extends this connection into the IT and cloud environment.

This creates a seamless and secure network connecting the field level all the way to IT and the cloud. Security is not viewed at a single interface, but rather across the entire chain. Production data can be reliably used for monitoring, reporting, optimization, or new digital services.

What works on a small scale also matters in industry

The cocktail machine demonstrates on a small scale what industrial companies need on a large scale: a secure and end-to-end connection from the field level all the way to the office. The finished cocktail becomes the perfect celebratory drink and demonstrates that the process and data chain is working.

Their joint presentation at the Next Industries Forum shows how Swisscom and CTE combine their expertise to create an end-to-end solution for the industry. The perfect blend of IT and OT.
